Health Benefits of Different Sports
Useful signal: A review of longitudinal and intervention research found recreational running was associated with lower mortality risk and improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness and other physical-health measures.
Important limit: Population-level associations do not predict an individual runner’s outcome, and the review does not test Devon Deer’s particular route or schedule.

Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Adults
Useful signal: Canadian guidance recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity each week, plus muscle strengthening twice weekly and healthy sleep and sedentary-time patterns.
Important limit: A club run may be moderate or vigorous for one person and something different for another. Running is not a complete strength, mobility or recovery plan.

Modeling social support and life satisfaction in running groups through stress management
Useful signal: Among 361 recreational runners, perceived social support was related to life satisfaction, with stress management explaining part of that relationship.
Important limit: This was a correlational survey. It cannot show that joining a running group causes greater life satisfaction.

From exercise dose to social dose
Useful signal: A recent review identifies repeated contact, shared rituals, peer support, group meaning and psychological safety as promising ingredients in group physical activity.
Important limit: The evidence is heterogeneous and causal evidence is uneven. The paper offers a useful design lens, not a guaranteed loneliness treatment.

Acute effects of outdoor versus indoor exercise
Useful signal: Across 38 studies, outdoor exercise was more enjoyable than matched indoor exercise on average.
Important limit: Physiological advantages were inconclusive and many studies had a high risk of bias. Outside may feel better; it is not automatically a better workout.

The impact of the time of day on metabolic responses to exercise in adults
Useful signal: A systematic review found no clear metabolic advantage for morning versus afternoon or evening exercise. Public-health strategies should encourage exercise at any sustainable time.
Important limit: The evidence was limited and low-certainty. Individual chronotype, sleep, schedule and performance goals still matter.

Effects of morning and evening physical exercise on sleep quality
Useful signal: In a small real-world study, a 45-to-60-minute run in either the morning or evening extended non-REM sleep compared with rest.
Important limit: Only 13 recreational runners participated. It does not justify sacrificing sleep to make a 6:15 a.m. start.

How human runners regulate footsteps on uneven terrain
Useful signal: Laboratory trail-like terrain showed how runners adjust leg mechanics to remain stable on gentle unevenness without targeting every foot placement.
Important limit: This biomechanics experiment does not show that one trail run per week prevents injury, improves balance or is superior to road running.

Risk factors for running-related injuries
Useful signal: Running injuries have many interacting contributors, including training, health, lifestyle, morphology and biomechanics.
Important limit: The underlying reviews were generally low quality and heterogeneous. Simple claims that one surface, shoe or routine prevents injury are not supported.
